    What Is Foundayo®?

Foundayo® (orforglipron) is an FDA-approved, once-daily oral GLP-1 receptor agonist for chronic weight management. Manufactured by Eli Lilly — the same company behind Zepbound® (tirzepatide) — Foundayo® represents a major advancement because it's a pill, not an injection.

As a non-peptide, small-molecule GLP-1 agonist, Foundayo® can be taken orally at any time of day without the food and water restrictions required by other oral GLP-1 options. This makes it a potentially more convenient choice for patients who prefer not to use injectable medications.

    How Foundayo® Works

Like other GLP-1 medications, Foundayo® works by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone to:

    • Reduce appetite by acting on hunger signals in the brain
    • Slow gastric emptying, helping you feel fuller longer
    • Support blood sugar regulation
    • Promote sustained caloric reduction without extreme dieting

What makes Foundayo® unique is its small-molecule structure, which allows it to be absorbed orally without degradation in the digestive system — a limitation that previously restricted most GLP-1 medications to injectable formats.

    Clinical Evidence: The ATTAIN-1 Trial

The efficacy of Foundayo® was demonstrated in the ATTAIN-1 phase 3 clinical trial:

Adults taking the highest dose of Foundayo® lost an average of 27 pounds (approximately 12.4% of body weight) over 72 weeks when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

The trial also demonstrated improvements in key cardiometabolic risk factors. As with all weight loss medications, individual results vary and depend on factors including adherence, lifestyle changes, and baseline health status.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Foundayo®?

You may be a candidate for Foundayo® if you:

    • Have a BMI ≥ 30 (obesity)
    • Have a BMI ≥ 27 with at least one weight-related condition (type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol)
    • Prefer a daily pill over weekly injections
    • Want a medication without food or water timing restrictions

As with all GLP-1 medications, Foundayo® carries a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumor risk. It is not appropriate for patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2. Your clinician will review your complete medical history during your initial consultation.

    How Foundayo® Is Prescribed

Foundayo® uses a gradual dose titration schedule to minimize side effects:

    • Starting dose is low and increased incrementally
    • Available in multiple tablet strengths (0.8 mg through 17.2 mg)
    • Taken once daily at any time — with or without food
    • No water restrictions before or after taking the pill

Your clinician will determine the appropriate titration schedule based on your tolerance and response. Regular follow-up visits ensure dosing is optimized for your goals.
